Spider Hole November 2021

Monday 30th April 2018

John Cooper and Wayne Starsmore. Used up the cement in the tub to make a half mix which John used on the bottom wall ready for more gravel. Whilst John did that Wayne moved the rocks from last week along to the bottom of Four-Tonne Shaft. Wayne then hauled more rocks up from the bottom until just gravel left. We then moved those rocks along to the bottom of Four-Tonne Shaft. All ready for a big haul next time. Good draught at the bottom again tonight. 2 hours.

Monday 23rd April 2018

John Cooper, Will Reed and Simon Richards (Nik Nak). With John at the bottom filling buckets 42 loads of boulders were sent up to Nik Nak at the top who threw them along the top tunnel where they still reside - need moving to bottom of Four-Tonne Shaft. A similar quantity of gravel and smaller rocks were sent up to Will who emptied the small buckets behind the bottom retaining wall - this is now full and needs building higher. A good draught was coming along the curvy crack. Nik Nak reckons dig more floor out then follow the lower curvy crack. Still a bit of debris to move but not a lot. A good 2½ hour session.

John Cooper, Simon Richards (Nik Nak), Phil Roxby, Wayne Starsmore, Adrian Vanderplank and Jude Vanderplank. Arrived at the car park to find Tim Ball + 2 hoping to do a tourist trip. Sent them in ahead of us. Found them on the ledge part way down Four-Tonne Shaft. One of them accompanied us to the bottom but the other two decided not to proceed. Nik Nak took in a bag of cement. John took in small bag with drill and bits; Adrian took in small bag with wire, cord and firer; Wayne took in box with 2 batteries. John drilled 2 x 10mm x 550mm plus 1 x 10mm x 300mm (limit of cord supplied). Didn’t need to use Adrian’s new battery. Adrian set charge watched by Nik Nak and Phil. 2¼ hours. John.

John, Wayne, NikNak, Phil Roxby, Jude & Myself. John, Wayne & NikNak to the bottom with NikNak dropping off a bag of cement on the way. Three holes drilled on the R/H side under the alcove. Two 500mm and one about 300mm. Phil & I to the bottom where I connected the charge and then up to a midway point in the bottom section of 4 tonne shaft from where we fired the charge. Little draught tonight, temp outside 9°-10°C so very small amount of differential in it. Adrian.
